SQC Facilitator Training 2010-1 Report (26th and 27th May 2010)

The EMA (Evaluation Monitoring and Advisory) Committee of QUEST-Nepal organized a SQC Facilitator Training (SQCFT 2010-1) in collaboration with St. Xavier’s School, Jawalakhel  on 26th and 27th May 2010. In total, 46 participants from 30 different schools participated in the training program. There were teachers, school coordinators and principals participating in the training from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Nawalparasi, Nuwakot and Janakpur.

Prof Dinesh P Chapagain, Chairman of QUEST Nepal initiated the training program with his opening address. The introduction of SQC was given by Mr. Hemant Tamang, the Vice Principal of St. Xavier’s School and the SQC Master Trainer. The training was coordinated by Mr. Nirajan  Adhikari, the coordinator of EMA Committee and the SQC Master Trainer.

There were altogether eight sessions in the training. The members of EMA committee and the SQC Master Trainers Mr. Lekhnath  Pathak, Mr. Subarna Raj KC, Mr. Rabi Shrestha, Mr. Sunil Sharma and Mr. Gokul Sharma were the Resource Persons of the training. The training was focused to train the participants to work with the SQC concepts, tools and techniques so that they can initiate and implement SQC in their respective schools.

On 27th May 2010, in closing ceremony after the training, Mr. Lekhnath Pathak , the Secretary of QUEST Nepal and Master Trainer, highlighted  the reflection of the training and Mr. B N Sharma, the General Secretary of QUEST Nepal gave introduction to the activities and programs of QUEST Nepal. Prof Dinesh P Chapagain distributed certificates to the participants and the program was adjourned along with the Vote of Thanks to all the participants, Resource Persons and others who directly and indirectly supported in organizing the training.

Report of the SCQ training (2nd to 3rd February, 2010)

Mr. Nirajan Adhikari, the Master Trainer and Coordinator of EMA Committee, QUEST Nepal conducted a SCQ Training at Wise Vision Secondary Boarding School, Rajahar, Nawalparasi on 2nd and 3rd February 2010.

On 2nd February, he gave orientation to all the teachers, Principal and the members of School Management Committee about Quality Education and SQC Program for two hours. On the next day, 3rd February, Morning, the SQC orientation class was given to the students of class Seven and Eight. There were altogether 45 students taking the class. After that interested students made four circles.

Out of four circles, two circles were given a full day SQC training in the presence of their two teachers. They were trained to work according to the standard problem solving tools and techniques of Students Quality Circle. Students were interested to learn the new things through SQC training. Teachers were also happy to know about SQC and work with the SQC tools and techniques.

SQC Training at Edify International (February 9, 2010)

One day orientation – cum- training was organized at Edify International, Blue Star Mall, Tripureswar, Kathmandu on February 8, 2010. The program was facilitated by Mr. Lekhnath S Pathak, Master Trainer of SQC and Secretary of QUEST Nepal. It opened with Dr. C.P. Rijal, CEO of Edify International welcoming the participants and facilitator and highlighting the innovation and research in the field of education.

Students of Orbit International College, Kalanki accompanied by the Campus Chief of the college, Dr. Jayandra Shrestha, a prominent figure in the field of Social Service and Education and the faculty members of the college attended the program. Students of Edify International School, Kalanki, Kathmandu, a Laboratory School of Kathmandu University also actively took part in the program accompanied by their teachers and the Principal of the School Mr. Dwarika Amgain, himself an enthusiast of this approach. There were over 50 participants who attended the program.

The program stared with Prof. Dinesh P Chapagain, Chairman of QUEST Nepal, who started this movement in Nepal, addressing the gathering and highlighting briefly on the history of SQC in Nepal and globally and how this movement is spreading fast in academia. His address was followed by the demonstration of a case study on “Vandalism of School Property” by the students of Neptune Boarding School, Bagbazar, Kathmandu. Mr. Kishor Poudel, Vice Principal of the school spoke on how children work in SQC.

The demonstration was followed by a video show on the benefits of SQC.

When the audience was sufficiently sensitized about what is SQC and what are its advantages, Mr. Pathak started his three hour long session on how it establish SQC in schools and how students, teachers and the school management stands to benefit from this approach. The students also practiced the seven steps of problem solving, basic quality circle tools and techniques. The audience felt that SQC has a tremendous potential to transform a child into good and smart quality person.

At the end of the program, the students thanked for organizing such a meaningful program and expressed the views that it had shown them a new way to them and the students and School and College management expressed their commitment to implement SQC in the respective school and college.
